Eighth Graders Celebrate Moving Up Ceremony
On Tuesday, June 23rd, eighth grade students marked the end of their middle school journey, and the start of exciting opportunities in high school as Camden Middle School held its 2026 Moving Up Ceremony in the Camden Middle School Auditorium.
In front of an audience of family and friends, over 125 students received their completion certificates, along with a litany of other awards including the Presidential Awards and A-Pass award.
The occasion was marked by students with an original poem, along with two student speakers selected by their peers. The poem was written and read by Naiara Nottingham, and was as follows:
“A chapter of our lives has come to a close
We are heading in a direction that nobody knows
What I do know is that we have each other
And we will make each year more fun than the other
Four years ago we all came together
To make new friends and become better
Yes we are still changing figuring out who we will become
But I have no doubt we will have experiences to grow from
Each step forward is a step in the right direction
Life is full of ups and downs but it will be perfection
I know we will enjoy these next four years
We can take every challenge as it appears
And while the journey ahead may seem unclear
Together we can make the most of each year
I’m proud of us all and all we’ve become
Congratulations class of 2030, the best is yet to come”
Student speakers Cody Terrier and Katherine Dean offered their own personal reflections on their time roaming the halls of Camden Middle School, while also expressing optimism for the challenges and opportunities that await.
“Although middle school is ending, our journey is far from over,” Terrier said. “We are simply closing one chapter and beginning another. As we move on to high school, we will face new challenges, opportunities, and experiences. I hope each and every one of us continues to work hard, chase your goals, and make the most of the years ahead.”
“I believe middle school is one of the most challenging times in our lives: we change, school changes, and even our friends change,” Dean said. “Every one of us is going to high school this year, probably nervous, excited, or a little bit of both. No matter what is in store for the next chapter in high school, we are all going to face challenges that may be hard and we may have great successes too, but regardless we have to remember to persevere.”
When addressing the graduates, principal Brittany DerCola called on the message of a favorite book - “Be You”, by Peter H. Reynolds. As she flipped through the pages, the enduring message was one of authenticity as each student embarks on their high school journey.
Congratulations to the following students on this important milestone! Please note that due to media release restrictions, not all names are present here.
